Lakeshore
Chorale
"For
Discriminating Tastes"
For over 2000 years,
choral music has been inspiring
the
hearts of people throughout the world in their concert halls and places of worship. The Lakeshore Chorale carries on that
significant tradition today and
into the future. It is a diverse group of musical friends whose common interests
are a love of singing and choral music. The ensemble is unique in its sense of
community, and in its commitment to musical
excellence and growth in a strongly
supportive and welcoming environment.
For 25 years, the
Lakeshore Chorale has been giving local audiences
affordable opportunities to
hear live performances of
wonderful, exciting music. The Chorale has provided
the singers and accompanying instrumentalists
the opportunity to participate in performances of high-quality sacred and
secular choral works.
The Chorale, under the direction of
Dr. Linda Jacobs and accompanied by Mr. Wayne Wildman, has 35 auditioned members from Sheboygan and
the surrounding counties. Typically,
four concerts are presented each year between September and
May offering an extensive and varied repertoire, including Palestrina, Bach,
Haydn, Mozart, Brahms, Gilbert and Sullivan, and PDQ Bach.
To further the Chorale's goal of increasing choral music awareness and promoting
artistic education in our community, the Lakeshore
Youth Chorale was created in 1994. Two ensembles for students ages
7-14
expand the singing opportunities for area youth and enhance the cultural
richness of the community.
The Lakeshore Chorale has performed in
Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Hungary, Poland and the
Czech Republic in four separate tours. Performances in Sheboygan's sister city,
Esslingen, Germany, the Abbey at Bath,
England, the Karlskirche, Vienna, and the Jesuitenkirche, Innsbruck, have been
thrilling highlights for the ensemble. The Chorale has also performed in some of
the finest concert halls and churches throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest.
Membership consists of adults: high-school graduates and older. Auditions for
new members are held biannually, or by appointment with the director. New
members are accepted on the basis of need, choral balance, vocal ability,
musicianship, and attitude. Please contact Dr. Jacobs at the Lakeshore Chorale address below if you are interested in an audition.
